A historic drought
The Santa Clara Valley Water District has taken numerous actions to respond to the historic drought. Since February 2014, the water district board of directors has echoed Governor Brown’s call for a water use reduction of 20 percent compared to 2013.
Despite some initial success, efforts to reduce water use have not reached this 20 percent target. As a result, communities across the county are amping up their efforts to encourage water use reduction immediately. The water we save now will help to preserve our groundwater supplies, maintain sufficient water in our groundwater basin, avoid land subsidence (sinking), and get us through multi-year droughts.
A one-stop web page at http://valleywater.org/drought2014 includes a monthly "Water Tracker" that describes our current water conditions. You can also find tips for saving water, fact sheets and a monthly “Drought Status Report” that tracks water savings countywide.
